The Independent Bulgarian energy exchange (IBEX) (100% owned by BSE-Sofia) hosted the first regular EUROPEX meeting for 2018, which was held on 1-2 March in Sofia. IBEX is a full member of EUROPEX (Association of the European energy exchanges) since 29 January 2016.
The agenda of the event included meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Supervision Commission and Bulgarian stock exchange – Sofia.
During the first day, the Ministry of Energy presented the priorities of Bulgaria in the energy field during the European Presidency. Part of them are achieving of an agreement on the Clean Energy Package and construction of the Balkan European gas hub.
Representatives of EUROPEX presented their views, published in number of position papers, according to which auctioning of Guarantees of Origin (GOs) for support energy is in line with EU State Aid rules, which will bring wider system benefits. Other topics that were concerned were the Full market integration of renewables, Bidding zone configuration and capacity calculation mechanisms, as well VAT fraud prevention.
The second day of the meeting continued with discussion on the financial sector priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency and new requirements imposed by the sector legislation Regulation (EU) No 600/2014 (MiFID II / MiFIR) in force as of 3 January 2018.
